The Yin Mind

Break free from perfectionism and awaken to more joy in your life,
deeper connection in your relationships, and unconditional love for yourself.

Most women believe they need to improve something about themselves.

They think, “Life would be so much easier if…”

… I were calmer and less reactive
… I had the discipline to eat less sugar or drink less wine
… I loved my body
… I weren’t so sensitive

Maybe you can relate. (I know I can.)

And maybe it’s that deep desire to be different — to be calmer, kinder, and more relaxed — that brought you to yoga and meditation.

There’s a fire inside you that longs to feel more peaceful, compassionate, and loving toward yourself and others.

You know deep down that if you could maintain a consistent meditation practice at home, you’d be more in touch with the beauty and wonder of life. You would live with your heart wide open.

The only problem?

When you try to meditate every day, it doesn’t work.

Yin Mind Pictures (1).png

Most days, you don’t even make it to your meditation cushion.

You set your alarm early so you can meditate but when the time comes, you’re tired and hit Snooze instead.

Or your kids jump into your bed and want to snuggle, and you think it’s more important to show them affection.

Or you had a glass of wine the night before and you feel lethargic and your head hurts.

You’ll try again tomorrow.

Some days, you meditate and it feels like torture.

Your mind is so busy, you can't calm down. You’re thinking about groceries, the dentist appointment you keep putting off, and the pain in your right knee.

You open one eye to see how much time is left on your timer.

When your 10 minutes is up, you check it off your to-do list but this is far from the peaceful feeling you were looking for.

Yin Mind Pictures (2).png

But then … then there are days when meditation feels incredible.

Your mind becomes still. You drop into your body. Your entire nervous system relaxes and unwinds.

You wish you could stay in this moment forever.

But not long afterward, real life rushes in.

Little things trigger your — a work email, or the way your body looks in the mirror, or the wet sponge your partner left in the sink.

Or something life-shattering happens, like the death of a parent or a divorce.

And all that peace seems to wash away as quickly as it came.

Sometimes it feels hopeless, but there’s some good news:

All the ups and downs you’re experiencing are completely NORMAL. That’s because maintaining a consistent meditation practice is hard.

Yin Mind Pictures (3).png

Without guidance from a meditation teacher who can help us continually learn to let go of our thoughts and expectations, we become even more tightly wound and stressed-out.

In an attempt to make our world more peaceful, we actually become less patient with others and repulsed by the messy-ness of life.

That’s not the point of meditation.

What if you could experience a whole new way of looking at your practice, your body, and your spiritual aspirations?

It starts with understanding that a meditative lifestyle ISN’T about depriving yourself, being strict, or putting on an air of “better than others” because you practice.

It’s not about improving yourself.

Yin Mind Pictures (4).png

When you try to improve yourself through getting more, doing more, or being “better” — it all eventually collapses. You might feel better for a while, but your body will eventually fight back.

Speaking of your body…

Your body is the KEY to the freedom, connection, and love you seek.

Let your body lead.

Yin Mind Pictures (5).png

Meditation isn't about ignoring your body or achieving idealized states of consciousness.

In fact, meditation is about letting your body be your guide.

What the world really needs is not more “perfect” people, but more relaxed people.

And that happens by listening to your body.

By letting your body lead -- in every aspect of your life -- including your meditation practice, you take a bold stance against patriarchy, sexism, racism, and capitalism. You move toward nirvana.

Your body becomes your ally, not your enemy.

“It’s so worth it.”

I hear my students say this year after year.

Introducing The Yin Mind

Yin Mind Pictures (6).png

The Yin Mind is my transformative online 6-month Meditation Immersion. It runs once a year and begins in August.

Over the course of 6 months, I help you create, maintain and explore an embodied, somatic meditation practice that you not only make time for every day, but that you crave.

I transform confused, perfectionist, and uptight empaths into grounded, warm meditation practitioners who change the world by embodying love.

What’s waiting for you on the other side

In this 6-month course you’ll learn my signature EMBODIED method of meditation.

EM Acrostic.png

The Embodied Method

This one-of-a-kind method has been refined over two decades of my personal yoga and meditation practice, as well as 16 years teaching women the deep satisfaction that comes from finding peace in their bodies.

This is NOT a patriarchal, rigid, or dogmatic practice that was designed for monks and nuns. This is a meditation practice that enhances your life, rather than takes away from it.

This method helps us truly offer compassion to ourselves… and that changes us on a fundamental level.

We then start to see other people as they really are. Not just as we think they are, or how we think they should be. It's very healing, and the people closest to us in our lives will notice a dramatic difference in how we interact with them. They will likely experience us as being more understanding, more approachable, more loving and more honest.

What you get

WEEKLY CLASS TO WAKE UP YOUR RIGHT BRAIN

We’ll meet every Sunday morning from 9-10:15 am ET on ZOOM.

You will learn about the concept of touching enlightenment in the body, which is very different from many other styles of meditation which focus on touching enlightenment, or finding enlightenment with the mind.

Rather than using practices that reject or eject us from the body, we will practice inhabiting the body with all its tension and all its desires.

Doing this wakes up the right brain, which helps quiet the thinking mind, and can bring an incredible sense of relaxation and harmony to our life.

WEEKLY AUDIO RECORDINGS

I send you weekly audio recordings to listen to at your own pace and keep you inspired. You’ll have access to this for life.

WEEKLY PRACTICES TO DO AT HOME

I invite you to practice the guided, recorded 20 minute meditation at home every day, or as much as you can. You can also choose one yin yoga posture to practice before you meditate each day. Your daily home practice lasts about 25 - 30 minutes.

COMMUNITY

By having a group of other practitioners, and a teacher, who you can learn from in such a structured, regular way (once a week for 6 months) there are nuances to the practice, the posture of meditation, and the relevance of meditation in everyday life that just can’t be seen in shorter, or more self-contained study.

How it works

We will meet on ZOOM on Sunday mornings from 9:00 - 10:15am ET starting on August 22, 2021 and going through February 13, 2022.

Each class is recorded, so it’s never a problem if you have to miss class. You can always make it up at another time.

6-Month Schedule

  • August: Introduction to the EMBODIED method

  • September: Fear and Wisdom meditation

  • October: Anger and Compassion meditation

  • November: Anxiety and Abundance meditation

  • December: Loneliness and Love meditation

  • January: Sadness and Courage meditation

  • February: Integration and Graduation

Sunday Schedule

9:00-9:40 am: We will begin with 40 minutes of Somatic Yin Yoga, which helps prepare the body and mind for meditation. Everyone will be encouraged to listen to their body, and do what feels right.

I’ll offer variations and constant reminders that there is no competition and that you can come out of any posture at any time.

9:40-10:00 am: We will then meditate for 20 minutes, and I’ll guide you through the whole process. Each week you have the option of sitting up to meditate, or lay down on your back. One isn’t better than the other, and both have wonderful unique benefits

10:00-10:15 am: At the end of the hour, we have 15 minutes reserved for Q&A or chanting Sanskrit mantras if no one has questions that week.

Who is the right fit for The Yin Mind?

Yin Mind Pictures (9).png

Here is a list of the pre-requisites for this course:

  • You identify as a woman

  • You are open (and maybe even excited) to be in a room with other women who don’t look like you.

  • You have at least 1 year of yoga, dance, or movement experience

  • You have been to therapy at least once in your life

  • You are willing to go to therapy again when needed

  • You understand that yin yoga and meditation are not a substitute for therapy

What you should know before joining this course:

  • You will see female images of the Divine (ie “Goddesses” as they are often called). You are not required, or asked, to believe in these images or take on any new belief systems about these images. But you will be introduced to them in this course, and it’s important to me that you know that ahead of time. I understand and respect, that for some women, God is male, or Jesus, or Allah, and I am not interested in trying to convert anyone.

  • You will hear Sanskrit mantras, which traditionally have been used to invoke the Divine Feminine. Please note that you are not required to make these sounds out loud. But you will hear them, and be invited to participate out loud only if it feels right to you.

  • My appearance may change dramatically week to week. I may sometimes come to class wearing a dress and lipstick, and other times come to class with disheveled hair and wearing my favorite sweatsuit. (This might sound funny or ridiculous, but it’s very important to me that you understand my role is not to be a fashion model. How I look will change depending on my mood and my day-to-day life. If you are looking for a spiritual teacher who wears robes, or is committed to an aesthetic life, or is always ready for a glam shot, I am not your teacher).

Code of Conduct

Yin Mind Pictures (8).png

Everyone who joins The Yin Mind will be asked to follow these rules:

  • You will not make racist, homophobic, sexist or hateful comments of any kind in class.

  • You will behave with respect for your fellow classmates

  • You will speak with kindness toward others

  • You will not try to fix or offer unsolicited advice to anyone else in the group

  • You are willing to turn on your computer and wait in silence for class to start on ZOOM

  • You are willing to contain your questions to the designated Q&A time at the end of each class

  • You are willing to carve out 20 - 30 minutes a day for your home practice (this is a challenge for everyone, and you are not expected to be perfect).

What if I have more questions?

Yin Mind Pictures (10).png

If you have questions about the course, or the application process, please don’t hesitate to reach out via email sally@sallymilleryoga.com. My response time is sometimes within minutes, and other times can take up to 48 hours. I really look forward to hearing from you.

Ps - There are 2 work-trade spots open this year for students who would like to participate but who cannot afford the full tuition. If you are interested in one of these work-trade positions, please email me at sally@sallymilleryoga.com and I can share the details with you. The course rate for work trade students is $100/month plus 2 hours of administrative work per week.

Pps - I am disheartened by the lack of racial diversity in most meditation circles. If you are Black, Biracial, Indian, Latina, Asian, Native American, or African, or have been discriminated against in your life because of the color of your skin, I offer a 50% tuition reduction, and you can use the code BROWNISBEAUTIFUL at checkout to automatically get your discount. For the white women who are reading this - if it disturbs you that you are asked to pay full tuition, and others are not, I ask you to please read more about the history of White Supremacy in our country and consider enrolling in another course. I feel that social justice is as important to our full embodied mindfulness as anything else. I would not be here, in a position of authority, if it weren’t for the racial privilege of my parents, and I want to do whatever I can to include more of our Black and Brown sisters in this deeply transformative and empowering work.
